M-NCPPC Nature Centres

For several summers I interned with the Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and two of their nature centres in my home of Montgomery County, Maryland—Brookside and Maydale.

There, I performed a variety of tasks including making maps and educational materials for visitors on environmental science topics, including extreme weather and local species. Examples of my work are below:

I designed this colourful map of Maydale showing visitors the five different habitats they can explore.

I worked on many diverse projects in a mostly self-directed manner, which allowed me to develop a lot of the basic data collection, cartography and design skills I still use today. I also had the benefit of working with the wonderful M-NCPPC naturalists.

If you're ever in the area, I highly suggest you check out both nature centres and keep and eye out for my work!
